There are some situations when you have to state something in a short period of time but it takes so much time to deliver. Then comes the role of idioms that makes your sentences look more precise and effective. Note: sth means something while sb means somebody. One’s is replaced with a possessive pronoun such as your, my, his, her, etc.

1. be in a bad way

be ill, unhappy, or in a bad state

-सख्त बीमार होना

After 17 years of the Conversation government, the country was in a bad way.

2. set( or start ) the ball rolling

get sth started, especially a conversation or a ball event.

बातचीत शुरू करना

The old men having set the ball rolling, the others began to throw in their suggestions.

3. get/ jump/ leap on the bandwagon

do sth because it is fashionable or profitable, join a cause or movement once it is successful

-आचरण में होने की वजह से आंदोलन माँ शामिल होना

After a couple of politicians won elections by promising to cut taxes, most of the others jumped on the bandwagon.

4. (not) bat an eye/ eyelash/ eyelid

to not show any shock or surprise

-हैरानी न जाताना, अविचलित होना

Mr. Zephyr didn’t bat an eye.

5. get out of bed on the wrong side/ get up on the wrong side of the bed

be in a bad or grumpy mood

बुरे मिजाज में होना

His behavior with everyone is bad today. it seems he got up on the wrong side of the bed!

6. give sb a hell

scold sb harshly

बुरे तरिके से डांटना

The boss gave them a hell for not finishing the project in time.

7. give sb the benefit of doubt

– regard sb as innocent until proven otherwise

-संदेह का फायदा देना

I didn’t know whether his story was true or not, but I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.
