Note: sth means something while sb means somebody. One’s is replaced with a possessive pronoun such as your, my, his, her, etc.

1. throw sb to the wolves

– allow sb else to be criticized or attacked, often in order to protect oneself

– पीड़ा सहन करने के लिए अकेला छोड़ देना

When the minister made yet another mistake, his colleagues threw him to the wolves.

2. done for

– exhausted, worn out

– बर्बाद, गया काम से

Once he is unemployed, he is done for.

3. done in

– be too tired to do anymore

– कुछ काम करने की हालत में न होना

Sit down – you look done in.

4. till doomsday

– for a very long time

– लम्बे समय के लिए

This work will take me till doomsday.

5. show sb the door

– make it clear that sb must leave

बाहर निकालना

Your boss isn’t going to show you the door just because you made a mistake.

6. on your doorstep

– very near to where sb leaves

नज़दीक जगह

 In our holiday villas, you’ll have both the beach and the mountains on your doorstep.

7. dot the i’s and cross the t’s

– be meticulous or precise to ensure that all details are correct

– सावधानीपूर्वक और स्टीक हो, पूर्ण रूप से जांचना परखना

 We need to make sure to dot the i’s and cross the t’s on this contract.
