Note: sth means something while sb means somebody. One’s is replaced with a possessive pronoun such as your, my, his, her, etc.

1. et al

– an others

– और अन्य

This book is by John, Jones, et al.

2. catch sb’s eye

– be noticed by sb

– किसी की नज़र में आना

 I tried to catch the waiter’s eye, so we could order.

3. end up

– to do sth that one had not planned to do

पहुंचना, समाप्त करना

 I think we always end up where we’re supposed to be.

4. face to face

– in each other’s presence

– आमने-सामने, सम्मुख

 We were standing face to face.

5. make/pull a face

– grimace, show unpleasant facial expression

मुँह टेढ़ा करना, मुँह बनाना ,चिढ़ाना

The boy made the baby laugh by making a face at him.

6. the facts of life

– knowledge of sexual reproduction

– जीवन की सच्चाई

The girls explain the facts of life to him.

7. not have the faintest idea

– have no knowledge of or no information about sth

– बिल्कुल अनजान होना

I don’t have the faintest/slightest idea what you’re talking about.
