                     =  to find the meaning of a word in a dictionary

I look a word up

Put off  the meeting

                     =  postpone the meeting

I had to put off  the meeting because my father  is coming today.

Speak down  to someone

                     =  to speak to someone like they are stupid, immature.

We should not speak down to anybody.

Take after

                     =  resemble or look like a parent

My colleagues say, "I take after my father."
