4. In hot water

-He found himself in hot water over his speech on immigration.

6. Eat humble pie

-Those who had predicted landslide victory for the ruling party in the general elections had to eat humble pie and apologise publicly.

7. An old hand

-The problem with this machine is tricky and not for beginners-leave it to an old hand to sort out the mess.
