There are some situations when you have to state something in a short period of time but it takes so much time to deliver. Then comes the role of idioms that makes your sentences look more precise and effective. Note: sth means something while sb means somebody. One’s is replaced with a possessive pronoun such as your, my, his, her, etc.

1. in broad daylight

during the day

-दिन के दौरान

He was robbed in broad daylight.

2. big brother

– the authorities or a large organisation which try to control every part pf people’s lives and to know everything about them

-अधिकारी/बड़ी संस्था जो लोगो के जीवन के हर हिस्से को नियसंतरित करना चाहते है

Increasingly, the state is taking a big brother role in this area.

3. bear the brunt of sth

– take the main force, often of a criticism or unpleasant event

-प्रहार अपने ऊपर लेना

I had to bear the brunt of his anger.

4. like a bull in China shop

-extremely awkward, clumsy person

-असंगत या बेढंगा वियक्ति

We told her it was a delicate situation but she went into the meeting like a bull in a China shop.

5. the buck stops here

– the responsibility for a situation or problem with sb

-हालत के लिए ज़िम्मेदार होना

It was my decision. The buck stops here .

6. make a fast buck

-earn money quickly and often in a way that is not honest

-तेजी से पैसा कमाना

They are traders out to make a fast buck.

7. pass the buck

-blame sb or to make others responsible for a problem that you should deal with yourself

-जिम्मेदारी डालना

She’s always trying to pass the buck and I’m sick of it!
