Note: sth means something while sb means somebody. One’s is replaced with a possessive pronoun such as your, my, his, her, etc.

at the time that sth happens

4. have an axe to grind

private or ulterior motive to further’ often a selfish one

– कानून की ताक़त, कानून की पहुँच

he should not become the chairman of the committee as he has too many axes of his own to grind

5. the abc of sth

the elementary or first elment ; the simplest knowledge

बेचैनी होना

he is keen to understand the abc of making investment is a stock market

6. above board

– open; staright ; legitimate ; without concealment

– झगड़े की जड़, विवाद का विषय

the deal between the two parites was completely open and above board.

7. give a good account of

perform well often in a challenging situation

– आँखों का तारा, बहुत प्रिय

as he could not give a very good account of himself in the interview the company didn’t offer him a good salary.
