Note: sth means something while sb means somebody. One’s is replaced with a possessive pronoun such as your, my, his, her, etc.

1. the bottom line

-in the final analysis, the most important fact in a situation

-किसी निष्कर्ष का महत्वपूर्ण तथ्य

Bill signed on the bottom line with a flourish

2. get to the bottom of something

discover the truth about a situation

किसी हालात की सच्चाई ढूंढ़ना

I’m not sure what is causing the problem, but I’m determined to get to the bottom of it.

3. cross the bridge when one comes to it

-resolve a problem when it occurs, rather than try to solve it in advance

-सही समय पर सही काम

I don’t know how we’ll pay the bills if you quit your job, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.

4. be on the brink ( or verge ) of doing sth

– be likely to do sth very soon

-किसी कार्य को करने के नज़दीक होना

I am on the brink of picking up the phone and informing your parents of the misdeeds that you have been up to in their absence.

5. back to the drawing board

back to the planning stage

-वापस योजना की स्थिति में पहुंचना

You also could go back to the drawing board with that budget, trying to reduce costs.

6. back to square one

return to where one started from

– वापस से शुरुआत पर पहुंचना

There is no need to go back to square one; just a few steps backward is all that is needed.

7. by (or through) the back door

not in a direct , official, or honest way

-गलत तरीके से

Jess avoided his aunt by leaving by the back door.
