There are some situations when you have to state something in a short period of time but it takes so much time to deliver. Then comes the role of idioms that makes your sentences look more precise and effective. Note: sth means something while sb means somebody. One’s is replaced with a possessive pronoun such as your, my, his, her, etc.

1. take a back seat

-take a less important position

-किसी कार्य म पीछे हो जाना, गौण स्थान लेना

 You need to take a back seat and think about both the past and future.

2. bag and baggage

(with) all one’s belongings

साजो-सामान के साथ, बोरिया-बिस्तर के साथ

The house was vacated bags and baggage in a matter of hours.

3. a bag (bundle) of nerves

-very nervous person

-जल्दी घबराने वाला इंसान

 By the time it came to my turn to sing, I was a bag of nerves.

4. the ball is in sb’s (your) court

– the initiative for taking action lies with sb

-फैसला किसिस और के हाथ में होना

It’s up to you what to do – the ball is in your court now.

5. have a ball

– have a good time

-अच्छा समय होना

We intend to have a ball at the amusement park.

6. a whole new ball game

-a significant change in circumstances; a changed turn of events

-हालातो में एक बड़ा बदलाव

He finds himself faced with a whole new ball game.

7. banana republic

a small, poor country with a weak or dishonest government

-एक छोटा और गरीब देश, बेईमान सरकार के साथ,एक गरीब देश, कमज़ोर सरकार के साथ जो विदेशी धन पर निर्भर करती है

The guy has more titles than the leader of a banana republic.
