Note: sth means something while sb means somebody. One’s is replaced with a possessive pronoun such as your, my, his, her, etc.

1. a guinea pig

– any person or thing used in a experiment or test

उपयोग में लाइ जाने वाली वास्तु या व्यक्ति

He was used as a guinea pig for the new drug.

2. stick to one’s gums

– maintain one’s point of view

-अपने निर्णय पर अडिग रहना

my parents didn’t want me to be an actor , but i stuck to my gums.

3. play to the gallery

– spend time doing ot take things that will make people admire or support you

लोगो का ध्यान खींचने के लिए घटिया हरकते करना

A politician may be tempted to play to the gallery.

4. the game is up

– the plan etc has failed; the trick has been exposed

खेल ख़तम हो गया है

 Maggie knew that he had recognized her and the game was up.

5. run the gamut

-extend over an entire range

विस्तार करना

he felt she had run the gamut of human emotions from joy to despair in one day.

6. garbage in, garbage out

– sth produced from materials of low quality will also be of low quality

अगर कचरा डालोगे तो कचरा हे निकलोगे

Computer buffs have a different phrase for it: garbage in, garbage out.

7. run out of gas

– suddenly loose the energy or interest to continue doing what you are doing

रूचि खोना

The team seemed to have run out of gas.
